Operation and setup of modern CNC lathes and machining centres in a highly automated production environment.
About the position
You will join our production team with responsibility for operating, setting up and monitoring modern CNC machines – both robot-loaded lathes and machining centres in our FMS system.
The work ranges from series production to prototypes and pilot series, and you will work closely with programmers and the quality department.

A day in the life of a CNC operator with us
A day as a CNC operator at RM Fintech A/S varies depending on which machine and task one is assigned to, but common to every shift is setting up, monitoring and checking the machining that is running. One might start the day preparing a new order, reviewing the drawing and measurement plan, and end it by following up on how the first components in a series meet the agreed tolerances.
Because a large part of production runs automated outside normal working hours, many tasks during the day shift involve preparing processes thoroughly so they can run stably once employees have gone home. This requires thoroughness in the set-up and the ability to anticipate what could go wrong during an unmanned period, rather than only reacting once something has already happened.
Collaboration with colleagues in other parts of production is close, because a component typically moves on to another machine, to quality control or to assembly after leaving one's own set-up. This close connection provides a natural understanding of what happens before and after one's own task in the process, and a shared understanding of what is required to maintain quality throughout.
Training as a new CNC operator
New CNC operators are introduced to their tasks through side-by-side training, where an experienced colleague goes through the machine, program and measurement plan together with the new employee before tasks are performed independently. This applies both to experienced operators coming from another industry or machine type, and to newly qualified employees who need to build basic routine in our specific set-ups.
Training covers both the practical craft, fixturing, tool selection and program adjustment, and the understanding of documentation and traceability that is a fixed part of the work with us. We place great emphasis on new colleagues understanding the connection between what they do at the machine and the documentation that follows the component onward through the process.
The pace of training is adapted to the individual employee's experience and the tasks they will handle, so an experienced operator is not put through unnecessarily long processes, while a less experienced colleague is given the time needed to build safe routine before taking on tasks fully independently.
The machine park you work with
As a CNC operator with us, you work with a varied machine park spanning from lathes and machining centres to more specialised set-ups such as sliding-head lathes and flexible manufacturing systems. This variation means that over time one builds a broad understanding of how different processes and machine types work together in an integrated production.
Some of the machines are part of automated set-ups with robot operation, which requires a different form of monitoring than a manual machine, including an understanding of how a robot cell functions and when a fault message requires human intervention. This knowledge is built up gradually through training and practical experience with the specific set-ups.
We place great emphasis on operators not merely operating a machine, but also understanding the process behind it, so they can judge for themselves whether a setting needs adjusting, or whether a deviation requires production to be stopped and investigated further. This understanding is central to being able to work independently and responsibly with the machines.
Quality as part of the daily work
Quality control is an integral part of the work as a CNC operator, not a task that belongs solely to a separate quality department. Measuring components against an agreed measurement plan, documenting results and paying attention to early signs of deviation are a fixed part of daily work at the machine, regardless of the type of task one is working with.
We work according to a certified quality management system, in which procedures for measurement, documentation and deviation handling are clearly described, but where the individual operator's professional judgement continues to play a central role in catching irregularities before they develop into a bigger problem in a series.
We encourage all operators to report deviations and improvement suggestions, whether it concerns a fixture, a tool holder or a measurement procedure. This kind of input from the shop floor is often what genuinely improves quality and efficiency in production over time.
Colleagues and collaboration across shifts
We are a relatively small organisation, which means that as a CNC operator you have a short path to colleagues in other parts of production, the technical department and the quality function. A specific challenge with a set-up can often be discussed directly with whoever can help, rather than going through several layers of approval or communication.
The work takes place in shifts, and a component often moves between several colleagues and machines before it is finished. This requires a culture where one can trust the work carried out earlier in the process while also taking responsibility for delivering a solid foundation to the next person working with the component.
We place great emphasis on an open tone, where questions and uncertainty about a task can always be discussed with a colleague or a manager before the task is started. This applies particularly in situations where a drawing or instruction leaves room for doubt, which is best clarified early rather than during the process.
Development opportunities as a CNC operator
As a CNC operator with us, there are opportunities to develop professionally in several directions, including programming, measurement technology or specialisation in specific machine types such as sliding-head turning or flexible manufacturing systems. Development happens gradually, as one builds experience and shows interest in a specific area.
We support relevant further training when it matches both the employee's wishes and the company's needs, and the decision is made on a case-by-case basis according to what makes sense for both the individual and production as a whole. Several of our current experienced employees have themselves developed from basic machine operation to more specialised roles over time.
